Free love, what is it?

I hope there is still some disciples of Morphine using this site... I was fortunate enough to have seen them twice(both times that they came to Australia) before Marks' untimely passing. The experience was life-changing. Their sound was unique and projected images of late nights(and early mornings) spent in tiny underground jazz clubs with nothing more than a packet of cigarettes, a bottle of red wine and a love for all that is dark and brooding. Im glad Dana and Billy have continued making music with Twinemen, albeit with a more cabaret sound(with the inclusion of Laurie Sargent on vocals).Morphine showed us that jazz didn't have to be happy, swinging music like Miller or Brubek, they proved that you can find solace in the dark world of the unexpected where sometimes you just want to crawl inside an empty box... and still be happy with what you have. Regards, Rooster.

Ya know, I'm 19 years old, I randomly heard the band one day and nearly had a heart attack. That was 3 years ago, since then i've bought and thoroughly listened to every album that they've had. I believe they're message was one of free love, but not in the conventional sense. In the sense that people need to love where they are and what they're doing. Whether you be in an apartment building 13 floors up partying to some Al Green, or sitting on your porch with a bottle of red wine, you need to appreciate your life, and the happiness you feel... even if it does take on a dark macabre feel.

I can't even imagine having seen them live, I've dreamt about it (literally) but i'm sure it pales in comparison. I can only hope that one day, my vision will be realized in the memory of this band.
